Jun. 2nd, 2010 11:25 amAlas, Del Toro has left The Hobbit. Now I'm hoping that this project will be delayed long enough that Peter Jackson has no choice but to take it over. "Busy slate" indeed. I hrrmph at you, Peter Jackson.
In other news, James McAvoy will play a young Prof. X in 'X-Men: First Class'. I guess I approve of this: he's a good actor after all, even if i don't think "future Patrick Stewart in wheelchair" when I look at him. Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus is in talks to play Tank Girl. Didn't see that coming either.
Now that "Nikita" has been rebooted as a TV series, what other girl-spy series could be resurrected? Well it looks like ABC is thinking of rebooting J.J. Abrams' "Alias", only without all that Rambaldi stuff. Actually, I think this could be a good idea. One of the problems I have with Abrams' shows is that they're so focused on massive, genre-shifting twists that they don't take the time to explore their opening premise. For example, in "Lost," I really could have done with more plots about basic survival on the island and the tensions that come from that. In "Alias," I gather many fans would have preferred to stick with the double-agent-inside-SD6 plot for much, much longer than the show did.
