This song was inflicted on me in the mall today. I managed to endure the first verse by maintaining a running commentary of evil snarkiness. Then Jesus entered the picture and the schmaltz reached levels of epic proportion. Rarely have I been literally driven out of a store by Xmas songs, so I thought I'd share the horror! the horror! )here.

Damn.

I really, really, really wanted Jackson to do The Hobbit. That's bad news.

Remaking a remake? say it ain't so!

Remaking Carpenter'sThe Thing strikes me as a bad idea - the original holds up so well - but this is the Dawn-of-the-Dead-remake team. And they are suggesting that it's not a direct remake, but more of a companion piece.

And the weekend box-office reports are suggesting that Bond was beaten by dancing penguins. Are you kidding me? What is it about penguins that spells box office gold? They're useless little blubber-puddings that can't fly, people! Get over it!

Casino Royale is very good, btw. You should see it if you haven't already.

...just stumbled across a line in a book on the 18C that sums up what I wanted to say.

On Picturesque Tourism in the 1750s:
"The development of sentiment was what it was all about, yet engagement with what was seen - human misery - was not."

My, how times change.
