Damn.

I really, really, really wanted Jackson to do The Hobbit. That's bad news.

Remaking a remake? say it ain't so!

Remaking Carpenter'sThe Thing strikes me as a bad idea - the original holds up so well - but this is the Dawn-of-the-Dead-remake team. And they are suggesting that it's not a direct remake, but more of a companion piece.

And the weekend box-office reports are suggesting that Bond was beaten by dancing penguins. Are you kidding me? What is it about penguins that spells box office gold? They're useless little blubber-puddings that can't fly, people! Get over it!

Casino Royale is very good, btw. You should see it if you haven't already.

Bond doesn't appeal to whingy, horrid child-monsters though! Blubber-puddings on the other hand...

I have to admit, the blubber-pudding in your icon is pretty cute.

That's cause it has an anime character inside. :p

Strikes me as a bad decision on New Line's part. I can understand working under a deadline, but Jackson brings a lot to the table besides his directorial ability. People would flock to the theatres to see him go back to Middle-Earth; they'll still flock to see The Hobbit, but not, I imagine, in quite such large hordes.

I imagine they'll advertise it as "from the producers of the LOTR," and that will be enough for the vast majority of people. Those who wanted Jackson back as director are also (for the most part) Tolkien fans who will go see The Hobbit regardless.

Already have plans.

And it is sad about the financial dispute. Makes me angry and then wonder what the heck is going on.

I *adore* penguins. For exactly the reasons you listed above.

I instead went and watched Babel, in a Spanish language theatre. I tell you, listening to Japanese while trying to read Spanish(both languages that I have limited proficiency in) is totally head-trippy.

They can fly just fine! Just in a thicker medium than other birds.
