Today was one of those avalanche-of-stress days where everything seems in control in the morning, but one tiny thing going wrong manages to throw multiple things out of whack. I have *way* too many office hours and meeting times scheduled for tomorrow, and I still need to get my exam work done. *whimper*
However I have to fess up and say that my weekend was singularly unproductive on the work front. I went to the "Bright Eyes" concert last night with
somemonad. The opening acts of the concert were very amateurish - basically a couple of whiny guitar-singer-songwriters who were scooped out of a local open mike fest and deposited onstage.* (I think that's pretty much literal btw.) By the time "Bright Eyes" came on I wasn't sure I could stand to hear another neo-folk singer whine about his relationship with America/family/girls/alcohol/pills/the Bush administartion/etc., but actually I liked a lot of the songs better live than in their recorded versions. So it was a good (if weird) show. Props to all the funkily-dressed Collins/wannabe-Collins kids who came out, and to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force van outside. I got to meet the Mooninites! And have my photo taken with them by the promo people! Apparently the photo will be up on the Adult Swim site soon, and I'll link to it if/when it appears.

*Please note, I have nothing against whiny neo-folk singer-songwriters, providing I can grade papers and drink coffee while listening to them.

Date: 2005-11-14 10:51 pm (UTC)and as for the opening acts...
i remember thinking the first guy reminded me of a high school talent show runner up. plus, everyone i went with independently concluded that one of his songs was Kenny Rogers's "The Gambler," just with different lyrics.
glad you had fun too.
