Entertainment news
Oct. 5th, 2010 06:27 pmOff to the bookstore soon to do some grading. Before I leave, I thought I'd give you an entertainment update!
By now I presume you've heard about the Unions Vs. Peter Jackson fight and the news that Zack Snyder ("300") will direct the next Superman film (a more sensible, if less intriguing, choice than Darren Aronofsky. Somewhere in a chronologically-divergent part of the multiverse there's now a peculiar adaptation of Superman in which Hugh Jackman plays Superman/a-delusional-lawyer-who-thinks-he's-Superman. His descent into 4-Color madness is accompanied by the screeching sounds of the Kronos Quartet. Lex Luther is played alternatively by Timothy Dalton and an eggplant.)
Fans of Melissa Marr's "Wicked Lovely" will be pleased to hear that Kimberly Peirce has been hired to direct. It's been a good week for female directors in general: Pixar has apparently hired its first female director for a feature-length film . Here's the project description: "Brave" "focuses on medieval Scottish princess Merida (Reese Witherspoon) who is a wild girl alienated from her family. After a fight with her mother, she makes a reckless choice that has serious consequences to her father's kingdom and all their lives." Sounds like a first on multiple levels.
In game adaptation news, Nolan wants to turn Inception into a PC game (I approve!) and Myst (yes, *that* Myst), is being adapted into a film. I imagine the first 30 minutes will involve an unseen protagonist pulling a bunch of levers to try and open a door.
In other news, a "lost" Kubrick film has been found. It was behind the couch the whole time. And OMG! A 3D Triffid Adaptation! This promises to be classy.
IN TV news, "Boston Legal," "The Practice" and "Ally McBeal" showrunner David E. Kelley is set to write and produce a new small screen series version of "Wonder Woman" for Warner Bros. Does... that make sense? I can't tell anymore.
