Lots of game-adaptation news, of course: Sam Raimi will helm the "Warcraft" Film while James Wan will helm the "Castlevania" Movie. There's also some straight SF movie news: Jon Spaihts ("Passengers," "Shadow 19") Will Pen "Alien" Prequel.
In terms of literary adaptations that are sure to drive me crazy, I hear that Michael and Peter Spierig ("Undead," "Daybreakers") will direct "Captain Blood," which is now set... in Spaaaace!" WTF? I guess old naval stuff can be fun when translated into space, but space travel is y'know, fundamentally different than ocean travel. Visions of the Wing Commander movie's notorious Das Boat in SPAAAACE! scene ping through the vacuum of my imagination.
And then there's the news that Paramount is developing a new "Secret of NIMH" movie. Supposedly it will "will combine live-action and animation ala "Alvin and the Chipmunks" or "Garfield"." Er, what? NIMH does not feature a lot of animal-human interaction, so why bother? Somewhere, "plot change" alarm bells are going off for me.
