So yes, I'm back in B-town, and no, I haven't caught up on all my chores yet. That's in part because my lovely (though busy) weekend was complicated by me getting sick. I seem to have bounced back today just in time for my workshop presentation, which I managed to get through without being stoned or pelted with rotten cabbages.

In other news, have you heard of this "reading to dogs" program? I can see the rationale for it after reading the article, but when I saw it advertised in the library today I thought the death of civilization was upon us.

Anything that raises teachers salaries in America is probably a good thing. That being said, I'd be worried that "merit pay" would either be diverted to the principal's favorites or would be handed out solely on the basis of standardized test scores.
