Paradise Lost: the Movie!

akashiverSay wha....? "Paradise Lost" movie goes ahead. $100 million budget. Should Daniel Craig or Heath Ledger play Satan?
No... hold on a minute. Some pieces of Hollywood news are just to difficult to absorb. A Paradise Lost movie? As in, the Milton poem? Turned into an action blockbuster?
The film, likely to be directed by Scott Derickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose"), is based on John Milton's 17th-century epic poem which tells the story of Lucifer's fall and the temptation of Adam and Eve.
The writers are deliberately moving away from the Milton touches to the text and Adam and Eve aspect in favour of the war of archangels - the battle in Heaven between God’s and Satan’s armies.
The aim is also to make the Devil into a deeper and more interesting character along the lines of Henry Hill in "Goodfellas".
NONONONONO! Stop the INSANITY!
"Moving away from the Milton touches to the text?" What the hell does that mean? So... they're going to call this "Paradise Lost" and claim it's an adaptation, but not actually include anything from... Paradise Lost?
(Might be a good idea, but again, see "WHA...?")
Oh, and part deux? "to make the Devil into a deeper and more interesting character along the lines of Henry Hill in "Goodfellas""
Because everyone knows Satan in PL is simplistic and boring?
Shouldn't that line read, "after all, they decided to make Henry Hill in 'Goodfellas' into a charismatic, fascinating study in evil like Satan in 'Paradise Lost'?
Dare I ask... have these people *read* the poem?
I'm torn between curling into a small ball and crying or shrugging my shoulders and saying "God vs Satan movie? Cool."
