"Anime? I don't get it. Everything about it is impenetrable to me. Their narrow faces, the little holes for mouths... Their mouths tremble when they're angry, their eyes tremble when they're upset, and I don't get it. I don't get how anime fans can have such intense emotional engagement with these characters... Anime fans are to emo as gamers are to prog rock."

I should further clarify, that it's not *my* rant, but part of a telephone conversation I felt obliged to post on the theory that the emo/gamer/anime intersection pretty much covers everyone on my f-list.

Uh, I don't get anime either. I mean it is pretty and all but I just can't watch it for any length of time. *sigh*

Anime and manga seem to be the main source of visual SF/F; most of the series I've cared about have been SF/F dramas. Then again, I also liked Maria-sama ga miteru, which is pure character.
