For those who kinda want to know what's "in" and "out" for Fall, but can't be bothered to actually read the ridiculous fashion mags, I forward you a summary:
I bought the fall fashion Vogue (I buy it every year, since high school - just the one)
and plowed through all 800 pages over dinner, still instinctively reaching for the
scissors to clip out the cool/bizarre/interesting pictures to tape to my bathroom walls,
like I did in high school...
Here's the recap - for those who spend their time more wisely than I. :-)
kimono sleeve blouses
poet shirts, ruffled with cuffs
pencil-leg jeans (boohoo to the disappearance of the wide-legged jean, says I)
general decadence: layers of necklaces, velvets, lace
textured tights/stockings
1-color outfit palettes with many different textures
puff sleeves! very neovictorian.
horrifying "paper-bag waist" trousers
two-strap east-west satchels
cameo earrings
Louis XVI/baroque accessories, shoes, etc. - Sophia Coppola's new movie seems to be a big
thematic hit with designers
crinolines under skirts! yay!
texture, texture, texture: jacquards, velvets, lace, damasks
platform shoes with very narrow silhouettes (toe and heel)
cone heels
foundation primer
the return of eyeliner
very smokey eyes, sheer but color-popped lippy
dark tights and silver or champagne-coloured heels
p. 712: model holding what appears to be MY CAT.
Things I ignored: frightening catwalk hockeymask veils. Makeup that makes you look like
Billy Joe beat the shit out of you after knocking back one too many Pabst beers on payday
night. Anything involving things that look like you might puncture a friend's spleen if
you hugged them while wearing it (spiky bits? all the rage in Japanese couture).
Coming soon:
Harper's Bazaar.
