I'm with you on Ackles playing Dean playing the bad boy. Result is, I don't get to see him playing Dean as Dean very often. I thought he did a greap job in this ep.
Re: demon eyes. I was actually thinking in another direction - Pamela was punished for looking at the angels by losing her eyes. The sign of her subsequent blindness/punishment are (fake) white demon eyes. I was wondering if there's a reason the demons look the way they do. Also - I wonder if Pam will be able to fake being a demon in a future ep?

Nah, I still the same about the midseason turning point. They'd already established the Winchesters vs. Heaven AND Hell thing. They'd brought Anna + Ruby into the equation. It would have been nice to establish that these characters had different motivations for joining the alliance, as opposed to keeping beating the "we're all unproblematically on the same side" drum.
