Alas,  I am under the weather. I've been hit by some kind of stomach virus that just won't quit, and am running a slight fever. Combine this with the fact I'm in the attic of a guesthouse in hot weather without AC, and I spent a very uncomfortable night last night.

I don't get the brilliantly vivid "fever dreams" other people talk about. Oh no. That would involve narrative that could be mined later for artistic inspiration. Instead I get brightly coloured fragments - not even complete images, but like kaleidoscopes breaking open when I close my eyes. Also, my brain will neither shut up nor make sense: the articulate-thought part of my brain subjected me to a steady stream of half-sentences without pause or reason.

To make everything worse (or from a meta perspective, more appropriate,) I'd gone to see Inception before said fever overtook me, so the brilliant soundtrack kept blaring through my feverish dreams, interrupting anything that got remotely articulate. In other words, I was tossing and turning with jagged colours in my head and a continuous drone that went something like this:  "ThebeesareBLAMMBLAAAM!WaitI thinkI'mBLAMMBLAMMM!BecauseFrancehasBLAMMBLAAAM!Eurofalling.BLAMMBLAAAM!.." all-bloody-night. Ugh.

The good news is 1) I managed to more-or-less finish revising the Ripper story, despite the under-the-weatherness.

2) I really enjoyed Inception. I'll have more writerly thoughts to post on it later, but for now I'll say it's worth seeing in the theatre to experience its sound more than anything else. I think the visuals will hold up on smaller screens, but the sound plays an important role in establishing the dream world, and unless you've got really good stereo, it's probably worth a theatre trip.
