Oscar Trailer #5 - Atonement
Feb. 4th, 2008 12:45 pm[Error: unknown template video]
This film is probably my least favorite of the Best Picture contenders. The movie was never going to be as good as the book, but even as a film, it wasn't as good as it could have been. The directing is clunky and tone deaf, and the closing scenes are ham-handed. So there.
In other news I finally saw There Will Be Blood. It's an extraordinary movie, but its scenes sometimes drag on too long, particularly towards the end of the film. For sheer audacity, I'd pick this film as #2 movie of the year.
And #1? Still NCFOM.
Final roundup: 2007 Best picture nominees in descending order of greatness
1) No Country for Old Men
(aka Life is Bleakiful)
2) There Will Be Blood
(aka Capitalism! The Movie.)
3) Michael Clayton
(aka When Lawyers Attack!)
4) Juno
(aka Not Just Another Quirky Teen Comedy)
5) Atonement
(aka Read The Damn Book First)
