Happy New Year, one and all!
Jan. 2nd, 2008 07:59 amBack from Xmas, back from the MLA, back to work.
Xmas was hectic, but wonderful. I got to meet family members I hadn't seen in 20 years (and some who I'd never met), see friends, teach my first ski lesson, and indulge in great food and zombie games. The weather in Vancouver was all over the place - a glorious, warm Xmas Eve followed by a White Xmas - just the way I wanted it.
And then on to the MLA! Jeez, this was a big event. It was weird to see humanities professors flocking through downtown Chicago - rarely have so many hardly-worn suits been gathered in one place.
The presentation went well (my panel was fabulous), and the much-storied convention wasn't quite as oppressive as I'd been led to believe. The convention turned out to be a major reunion site, and I was able to catch up with people I hadn't seen in months. Sadly, the craziness of the convention was such that I didn't get to meet with everyone I wanted to. Still, it makes me feel a bit more optimistic about next year.
And now, back to work.
