Had a fairly good weekend, all things considered. I finished my stage 1 reading for Nick's paper and drafted a couple paragraphs; got a desk chair assembled so that I now have somewhere to sit when writing said paper; got to hang with
somemonad,
moonandserpent, and
arcanamundii at various points over the weekend and had some great conversations about Jesus the Magician, NIN, zombie plagues, and changeling; got to see Audition (eeee!, Immortal (prettiest french sci-fi rape fantasy I've seen in a long time, but I can't say that I liked it); reams of bad reality tv, and more of season 1 Smallville, which I am really getting into now that I can view it from the beginning.
In other news, my sister passed on that a brother of a high school associate died of a brain aneurysm recently after capsizing his rowboat in a local lake. He was pulled out quickly, complained of feeling unwell, and died in the few minutes it took to row back to shore. He was 29, in great physical shape, with no known health problems.
I didn't know him (or her) very well, but it's always upsetting to hear of someone else's tragedy, and the older I get the more shocking it is when people who are close to my age, or younger, die. So I pass it on as a reminder to enjoy the present, because we never know what tomorrow might bring.
