How... odd. Interestingly, I don't think they're going to be able to make the main character remotely sympathetic in this movie, largely because of the change in historical setting. There is, after all, a difference between "you ruined my life!" and condemning someone to rot to death, and a difference between modern prisons and Dumas' ol' eevil PRISONS! But maybe I'm wrong and my reaction is merely a product of the naturalization of class in the Dumas novels.

Curious.

No, I don't see how it'll work, either. (Though, personally, I have yet to see a cinematic version that actually stays totally true to the actual book.)

I am reminded of this AWFUL version of Antigone that I was forced to attend in junior high school... wherein it was set in post-WWII Europe. It just didn't work.
